I wasn’t expecting any postcards to arrive, or even any stamped mail, but a lovely cartoon map of Scotland came out of the blue yesterday. On it is a nice example of the Scottish definitive stamp, with a thistle. This is the new 87p rate for European mail up to 20g or worldwide up to 10g, a fairly massive increase from 68p for the European rate and from 76p for worldwide postcards. I haven’t started using these yet because I stocked up on the old “No value indicated” stamps before they too increased.
You may notice a young lady in a bikini off the east cost, near Montrose. I think you can safely consider that to be artistic license on the part of whoever drew this map.

The Everything Everywhere photography tour has rolled into our last stop in Los Angeles. After two weeks in a van visiting some of the most spectacular scenery in the United States, we have reached the end of the road.
I think I can speak for everyone in saying they had a great time, saw some amazing things and took some great photos. I was very impressed with the quality of the photos taken by everyone on the trip. If you take the time and put yourself in front of great things, you can capture fantastic images without high end SLR cameras.
Thanks to SmugMug for being the official photo host for the tour. Also, thanks to the folks at Scottevest who provided travel vests to everyone.
I’ve already starting talking with the folks at G Adventures about our next tour. Stay tuned for more information!

Imagine that, being able to send a postcard in the evening announcing your arrival the next morning. Now you would have to post the card during the afternoon, pay extra, and hope it arrived before you. And it probably wouldn’t.
This is what Ye Old Chequers in the the High Street, Tonbridge looks like now.
The building to the left seems to have been demolished and the one on the right had been done up to match, but otherwise, it’s remarkably similar.
Tonbridge used to be spelled Tunbridge but the Post Office decided it should be changed to Tonbridge to avoid confusion with the nearby (Royal) Tunbridge Wells. Tonbridge, though, is a great deal older than Tunbridge Wells.

What the well-to-do child has for transport these days! I used to drive a 2CV myself, and though I grant you it was a tiny bit bigger, I’m not convinced it was any more substantial. It often did feel as though it was using pedal power.
The card came from the Netherlands. I suppose Citroen 2CVs were available in many parts of the world but I always think of it as being a French car.

The grown-up’s version came in different colours. A fun car to drive but I did eventually grow out of it.
